A bottle of 1992 Bollinger Vielles Vignes Françaises Blanc de Noirs, produced from three tiny ungrafted nineteenth century vineyards in the Grand Cru villages of Ay and Bouzy (totalling 0.5 hectares or 1.5 acres) which somehow survived the phylloxera epidemic.
Champagne writer Richard Juhlin scored it 97/100 after tasting it in 2004 in his book 4000 Champagnes and described it as follows:
'Unparalleled, superior wine for this vintage. Dazzlingly apple-flavored, youthful bouquet with a palate that can be likened to a shock wave of great and obvious authority. So rich and concentrated.... I wish all wine-lovers could taste this heroic beverage once in their life.'

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
