A bottle of 1999 Gaja Sori San Lorenzo Barbaresco from Piedmont in Italy. San Lorenzo is one of three single vineyard Barbarescos produced by Gaja, and was acquired by the company in 1964.
'Dark ruby. Deep, powerful, and structured, the 1999 Sori San Lorenzo is another great effort from Gaja. It displays a big brooding personality, defined by notes of tar, wet earth, cocoa and sweet dark fruit with notable expansiveness on the palate, although the wine remains quite backward. This shut down quickly in the glass and appears to be most youthful of these 1999s. Patience is clearly warranted. 94/100' Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, tasted 2006

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
