This lot contains four bottles of 2001 Château Montrose, second growth in the 1855 Classification from the Saint-Estèphe appellation in Bordeaux. The vineyards are planted with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, with the vines planted in a single solid block on gravel and iron-rich soil.
'...very broody and introspective with tightly coiled earthy black fruits, opening to offer limestone, graphite and cooked meat. Good delineation and complexity. The palate is medium-bodied, very classic in style with dry grippy tannins and graphite infused black fruits. Firm backbone, very Pauillac in style with great definition and length on the finish. It has the edge over Cos d'Estournel this year. 95/100' Neal Martin, RobertParker.com, 2011

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
