A bottle of 1981 Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos sweet wine bottled by Kereskedohaz, Hungary.
Tokaji is made from shrivelled, noble rot affected grapes, known locally as Aszú, that are fermented in vats of young wine or fermenting must, with the resulting wine measured by levels of residual sugar per litre. Five puttonyos is equivalent to 125 kilos of botrytised grapes added to a 136 litre barrel of base wine: enough to give the resulting wine a richly luscious character whilst maintaining good levels of natural balancing acidity.

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
