A bottle of 2017 Chambertin Grand Cru from Burgundy, vinified by Arnaud Mortet and bottled by Domaine Denis Mortet.
The late Denis Mortet was extremely highly regarded as a producer of concentrated, long-lived Burgundies made from meticulously maintained and low yielding vineyards.
'The 2017 Chambertin Grand Cru contains 40-50% whole bunches and is matured in 100% new oak (the only cuvée to do so.) It has quite an intense bouquet and as you would expect, the new wood is expressed as much as the fruit at the moment. With time, scents of tobacco and undergrowth emerge. The palate is very well balanced with grippy tannin, quite saline in the mouth with plenty of tightly-wound, detailed black fruit towards the lengthy finish. It will require several years in bottle but will be worth the wait. Drinking Window: 2023-2045. 95-97/100.' Neal Martin, Vinous, 2019

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
