A bottle of 1996 Château Lafite Rothschild from Bordeaux's Pauillac appellation.
Château Lafite is ranked as a First Growth under the 1855 Bordeaux Classification and is commonly regarded as being the most elegant and refined of them all. Plantings are 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 3% Cabernet France and 2% Petit Verdot. It is a 100 hectare estate, with roughly one third of the fruit making it into the 'Grand Vin'.
'The 1996 Lafite Rothschild was spectacularly powerful and rich, somewhat atypically intense and concentrated for Lafite. It is a gorgeous expression of primarily Cabernet Sauvignon from this great terroir. Remarkably, only 38% of the production made it into the 1996 Lafite, and it is a wine for the ages. Still an infant, it is capable of lasting another 50 or more years. 100 points.'
Robert Parker, Hedonists Gazette, 2005

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
