A bottle of 2005 Chambertin Grand Cru from Burgundy, bottled by Domaine Denis Mortet.
The late Denis Mortet was extremely highly regarded as a producer of concentrated, long-lived Burgundies made from meticulously maintained and low yielding vineyards.
'Kirsch, brown spice, floral perfume, and chalk dust aromas lead to a rich palate also much marked by high-toned distilled pit fruits and an overtly chalky, stony undertone that beautifully accentuates the extravagance of the fruit. Intense cherry and chalk persistence is augmented by marrowy, sweet meatiness. Mortet’s avowed intention is to vinify Le Chambertin that out-charms Charmes-Chambertin, and he has admirably succeeded. 95-96/100' Wine Advocate, 2007

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
