Burgundy Wine (Red) Auction

Bottle Auction

Description

A bottle of 1999 Volnay Premier Cru, Cuvée Blondeau, bottled for the Hospices de Beaune charity auction by Pierre André and specially selected by Longford Wines.

Cuvée Blondeau is made in honour of François Blondeau who in 1811 gifted the church bells to the Hospice de la Charité in Beaune, restored the church in Volnay, built a school, and gave all his vineyards in Pommard and Volnay so that five elderly people might be cared for, in perpetuity.

The wine is made up of the following Premiers Crus:

Les Champans 0.64 hectares

En Taille Pieds 0.56 hectares

Le Ronceret 0.36 hectares

Les Mitans 0.25 hectares

This 1999 Volnay Premier Cru sold at our online auction for £60

Condition

Please see images for fill level and label condition. Note damage to the label and capsule, which is torn and loose but appears to be secure. The first few letters of 'Hospices' are clearly visible on the cork.

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.

This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
