Description

A bottle of 2000 Château Haut-Brion from the Pessac-Léognan appellation in Bordeaux.

Château Haut-Brion is rated as a First Growth under the 1855 Bordeaux Classification and was the first producer to be mentioned by name in English literature, featuring in Samuel Pepys' diaries. The 43.2 hectares devoted to red grape varieties on the estate are planted with 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Franc. Haut Brion is prized amongst the First Growths for its savoury aromatic complexity and elegance, as well as its accessibility.

'I was not surprised to find the 2000 Château Haut-Brion flirting with perfection. The nose is simply breathtaking - quintessential Haut-Brion with ebullient red berry fruit, roasted herbs, gravel, terracotta tiles on a warm summer's day...it is simply wave after wave of intoxicating scents that could bring even the most stoic person to tears of joy. The palate displays heavenly balance, pitch-perfect acidity, perhaps spicier than previous bottles that I have tasted, and what depth and dimension in this outstanding wine. That hint of graphite on the finish is a cheeky nod to Pauillac, as if to thumb its nose at the First Growths, because alongside Château Latour, almost by stealth, the Haut-Brion is one of the greatest Bordeaux in this millennial year. Tasted 2014. Drink: 2020-2060. 99+/100' Neal Martin, RobertParker.com

Condition

Please see images for fill level and label condition. Note general wear. Please note the cork is very slightly raised by around 1mm.

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.

This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
