A bottle of Rémy Martin Louis XIII Very Old Grande Champagne Cognac. This is composed of Grande Champagne eaux-de-vie aged between 40 and 100 years and is presented in a Baccarat crystal decanter with a glass stopper. We estimate this was bottled in the late 1960s to 1970s.
The neck tag reads: This Decanter is the exact replica of a bottle discovered on the site of the Battle of Jarnac, which took place in 1569 between Catholics led by the Duke of Anjou and Protestants led by the Prince of Conde.
The original bottle was found on the battle-site, and acquired by Monsieur Remy Martin at the beginning of this century. Reproductions of this decanter were then used to contain the very rare cognacs reserved by Remy Martin for different royal families.
