A bottle of Commanderie St John, a sweet wine from Cyprus. We estimate this was bottled in the 1950s to 1960s.
Commandaria is an amber-coloured dessert wine from Cyprus, produced from the Xynisteri and Mavro grape varieties which are dried in the sun before fermentation. It has the distinction of being the oldest named wine still in production, with the name Commandaria dating back to the 12th century.

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
