Description

A bottle of 1982 Château Haut-Brion from the Pessac-Léognan appellation in Bordeaux, imported to New York by Seagram Chateau & Estate Wines Co.

Château Haut-Brion is rated as a First Growth under the 1855 Bordeaux Classification and was the first producer to be mentioned by name in English literature, featuring in Samuel Pepys' diaries. The 43.2 hectares devoted to red grape varieties on the estate are planted with 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Franc. Haut Brion is prized amongst the First Growths for its savoury aromatic complexity and elegance, as well as its accessibility.

'This is a phenomenal 1982 and it remains the most drinkable of the first growths. A strong iodine character here enveloped by delicious currants, shaved chocolate and spices. Full body with super-integrated tannins and a refined texture. Wonderful balance. 98/100' James Suckling, 2016

Condition

Please see images for fill level and label condition. Note general wear.

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.

This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
