A bottle of 1961 Château Pape Clément from Bordeaux's Graves appellation. The estate is planted with 30 hectares of red grapes: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot.
'Pape Clément can fairly claim to be the oldest wine-producing property in Bordeaux. It can trace its history back to 1300, since when the vineyard has been in continuous production.' Clive Coates MW, Grands Vins

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
