A bottle of 1992 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese produced by Weingut Manfred Franzen in Germany's Mosel valley. Auslese means 'select harvest' and refers to hand harvested whole bunches of fruit featuring nobly rotten clusters, resulting in juice with between 191 and 260 grams per litre of sugar.
Erdener Treppchen translates as 'The Little Staircase of Erden', and refers to stone steps built into the ferociously steep hillside many years ago to enable workers to reach the vines.
