A bottle of 1990 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese produced by Weingut Manfred Franzen in Germany's Mosel valley. Auslese means 'select harvest' and refers to hand harvested whole bunches of fruit including nobly rotten clusters, resulting in juice with between 191 and 260 grams per litre of sugar.
Erdener Treppchen translates as 'The Little Staircase of Erden', and refers to stone steps built into the ferociously steep hillside many years ago to enable workers to reach the vines.

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
