Description

A bottle of 1994 Chateau De Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape Grand Cuvée Hommage à Jacques Perrin, the flagship wine of the Beaucastel estate and a tribute to the man who developed the domaine in the 1970s.

'The two limited cuvees of Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin are spectacular in both 1994 and 1995, but each will require 10-15 years of cellaring. Less than 300 cases were made in each vintage. The textbook blend of 70% Mourvedre, 15% Syrah, 10% Grenache, and 5% Counoise was utilized in 1989, 1990, and 1994, but in 1995, the Mourvedre component was reduced, with the amount of Counoise and Syrah increased significantly. The 1994 is an explosively rich, super-concentrated wine that represents the essence of the Beaucastel style. It boasts an opaque purple color, followed by a huge nose of black fruits, smoke, Provencal herbs, saddle leather, coffee, licorice, and Asian spices. An excruciating tannin level is balanced by the wine's massive extract, high quantity of glycerin, and sweet alcohol. This Chateauneuf du Pape will last 40+ years, but it will not be close to maturity until 2008-2010. No Hommage cuvee was produced in 1996. 96/100' Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 1997

Condition

Please see images for fill level and label condition. Note general wear.

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.

This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
