A bottle of 1996 Château Troplong Mondot, a Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé from Bordeaux. The 30 hectares of vineyards are planted with 90% Merlot and 5% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.
'Very dark, opaque, purple/black. Nose is quite different. Vegetal with herbal notes, but also caramel, spice and lots of vanilla. Palate is very lush, full and velvety. A big, dark, rich, merlot dominated wine though tannins are vice-like. Long, creamy, oaky finish. 90/100' Tom Cannavan, January 1999.

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
