A bottle of 1998 Château Laville Haut Brion from the Pessac-Léognan appellation in Bordeaux.
Laville Haut Brion is a 3.7 hectare estate planted with 70% Sémillon, 27% Sauvignon Blanc and 3% Muscadelle, with the oldest parcels planted in 1934. The wine is made without malolactic fermentation, and aged in a minimum of 50% new oak for around fifteen months.
'Laville at its best has a rich but stylish nose, with a marked oaky sheen, while the palate combines opulence (of texture and flavour) with powerful concentration, nutty extract, bracing austerity and minerality, and exceptional length. This is one of the world's great dry white wines.' Stephen Brook, The Complete Bordeaux
