A bottle of Hildegardishof 1983 Binger Rosengarten Trockenbeerenauslese from Germany's Rheinhessen region, a blend of Rulander (Pinot Gris) and Gewurztraminer.
Trockenbeerenauslese is the highest in sugar content in the Prädikatswein category of the Austrian and German wine classifications, and is made from individually selected grapes affected by botrytis cinerea or 'noble rot'. This means that the grapes have been individually picked and are shrivelled, often to the point of appearing like a raisin, resulting in intensely sweet wine.
