These bottles were kindly donated by Capreolus for The Cream Of The Crop Charity Auction in aid of Equal Measures.
A magical trio. Capreolus has been described as a 'cult producer' in both the sommelier and bar worlds producing wild fermented Eaux de Vie that capture the essence of the Cotswolds fruit, climate and landscape.
This trio brings together three bottles from Capreolus' archives, each the fruits' first vintage the producer has ever distilled.
They are:
Damson Eau de Vie 2018 – Bottle 82 of 106
Greengage Eau de Vie 2018 – Bottle 102 of 142
Siegerrebe Grape Eau de Vie 2017 – Bottle 62 of 96
A little more about each bottle:
Damson Eau de Vie
A single orchard in the vale of Evesham, these archaic plums brought to our shores by the Romans and selected ever since for the tannic, cacao and red fruit driven brilliance. Hand graded plum by plum, long wild fermentations (circa. 4 weeks), hand sieved of their stones and triple distilled capturing the essence of around 25kg fruit per litre.
Greengage Eau de Vie
Not the more common Reine Claude series of French Greengages, but rather the near extinct Cambridge Gage, a greengage of the highest repute. It shines with Chenin like notes of honey, linseed and flowers. Extremely delicate and refined. This was the one and only opportunity Capreolus have had to work with this rarity.
Siegerrebe Grape Eau de Vie
Grown by the Three Choirs Vineyard, this highly aromatic cross marries Gewürztraminer with the Loire’s muscat scented Madeleine Angevine. A marc to prove how beautiful grappas can be; rehydration, long fermentations, hand transferred into their bain-marie still and revealing lychee, cumin, spice and rose water with a palate skating between sweet and savoury.
