A magnum of Querciabella’s flagship wine Camartina. This is one of the original Super Tuscans, a handful of history making wines that dramatically elevated the standing and prestige of Italian wine production on the world stage.
The 2016 vintage is one of best years for Tuscan wine in recent memory, and this is certainly true for Camartina with critics rating it among the very best ever produced for this wine. Antonio Galloni describes it as 'Superb' and 'full of energy' while Walter Speller MW praises the 'amazing depth' and 'originality' of this vintage.
Planted at high altitude on the arid sandstone slopes of the Ruffoli hillside in the Greve commune, this wine was always intended as a more Burgundian-influenced counterpart to the more Bordeaux-style wines in Bolgheri. A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Sangiovese, Querciabella have been praised by Antonio Galloni as truly ‘domesticating’ Cabernet to produce a uniquely Tuscany varietal character. Winemaker Manfred Ing is nothing short of a genius, known for his meticulous selection and entirely uncompromising approach to winemaking.
Presented here in magnum, the 2016 Camartina is entering its drinking window now, but will continue to mature for the next two decades, or more.
