A bottle of Castillo Ygay Gran Reserva Especial 2005 from Marques De Murrieta produced in Logroño, Spain. This is a blend of 89% Tempranillo and 11% Mazuelo, aged for 30 months in American oak.
Established in 1852, Murrieta is one of the oldest and most respected bodegas in Rioja Alta, renowned for its concentrated and long-lived wines.
'You just want to smell this, with a polish and clarity that changes all the time. Aromas of walnuts, dark fruits, ginger, roasted seaweed, soya, iron, rosemary, and lavender. Full-bodied, yet polished and firm. Such tension and form. The length is phenomenal. As always, this is a selection of the best of the best. A blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Mazuelo. Almost all American oak. Aged three years barrel and then three years in bottle. 97/100' James Suckling, 2015

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
