A bottle of Meerlust Rubicon 2009 from Stellenbosch in South Africa.
Nico Myburgh created one of South Africa's original 'Bordeaux blends' working with winemaker Giorgio Dalla Cia after visiting France in the 1970s, having discovered that the terroir in Bordeaux was similar to that of his native Eerste River Valley.
Planted with 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the name of the brand comes from Julius Caesar's decision to lead his troops towards Roman capital by crossing the Rubicon River in 49BC.

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
