Penfolds 1983 Grange Bin 95 Bottled 1985 - Recorked 2016 75cl / 13%
A bottle of 1983 Penfolds Grange, Bin 95, bottled in 1985. A blend of 94% Shiraz and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. This bottle was taken to one of Penfolds recorking clinics at the Haberdashers Hall in London on September 30th 2016, held in conjunction with Christie's auctioneers, where it was assessed by Penfolds winemakers. At this clinic this bottle was tasted as part of the assessment, topped up, re-corked and re-capsulated.
The 1983 was described as 'a massively rich and expansive wine with years of cellaring potential' in the Penfold's Rewards of Patience tasting, with a drinking window of now to 2035.
Grange was first produced by Penfolds winemaker Max Schubert in 1952 and is generally recognised as Australia's finest, and certainly most collectible, red wine.

The Whisky.Auction team has inspected this lot and found it to be suitable for sale. However, please note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults. Older bottles often contain sediment. Wines are more fragile than spirits and older wines may be listed, at our discretion, for their historical interest rather than their drinkability. We can in no way guarantee that they are still within their plateau of maturity or to the buyer’s taste.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
