A bottle of Krug Grande Cuvée Champagne, 166th edition. This is a blend of 45% Pinot Noir, 39% Chardonnay and 16% Pinot Meunier based around the 2010 vintage. Following at least seven years on its lees it was disgorged in Winter 2019/2020.
Grande Cuvée is blended from around 120 wines from multiple vintages, some as much as 15 years old. After bottling it remains in Krug's cellars for a further six years, resulting in a complex, 'vinous' Champagne. Wine critic Andrew Jefford noted that: 'of all the wine world's luxury wine brands, Krug is perhaps the most glittering'.
