A bottle of 1944 Borgogno Barolo Riserva Canubbi, produced and bottled by Giacomo Borgogno & Figli, presented in a branded wooden presentation box with drip-stop, metal stopper, slow-pour, wine thermometer and waiter's friend corkscrew.
The Canubbi vineyard (generally spelled 'Canubbi' on modern labels) is perhaps the most celebrated 'Cru' vineyard in Barolo, planted on clay/limestone marl soils at an altitude of 290 to 330 metres above sea level, and responsible for the most long-lived wines in the region. Borgogno own 1.3 hectares of vines on this site.
Barolo is required by law to be aged for at least 38 months after the harvest prior to release, of which at least 18 months must be in wood. To gain the classification of Riserva the minimum ageing period prior to release is five years.
There is no ABV listed on the label.
Please see images for fill level and label condition. Note wear to the label.
