Description

A handsome wooden case (six bottles) of Château Saint-Pierre 2009 St Julien from the cellar of Jancis Robinson OBE MW. Château Saint-Pierre is the smallest and least well-known of the St-Julien classed growths. Despite its checkered history, it is quietly becoming that rare thing in Bordeaux, a truly undervalued wine.

In 1982, it was bought by Henri Martin, the son of a Bordeaux cooper and also the owner of Cru Bourgeois Château Gloria. The lovely Château is found in the heart of St. Julien, in the village of Beychevelle.

When tasted 11 years ago en primeur in April 2010, Jancis awarded it 17.5/20 and her tasting notes were 'Very deep dark crimson, glossy colour. Aromatic and lifted. A little bit brutal in its make-up but very ambitious and introvert. Solid and dry on the finish.' From a particularly ripe vintage, it should be drinking beautifully now.

Enjoy your delicious claret by first decanting it into the Jancis Robinson X Richard Brendon Mature Wine Decanter, designed to help remove the sediment from mature wine whilst ensuring it's not exposed to too much oxygen. It follows the shape of The Wine Glasses, which sit at the heart of the collection as the only stemmed glasses you need to enjoy every wine at its best, including undervalued Bordeaux! The tulip-shaped bowl, gossamer thin rim and proportioned silhouette maximise your enjoyment of the wine's aromas, flavours and textures as well as adding an element of contemporary design to your table setting.
