A bottle of 1957 Château Mouton Rothschild from Bordeaux's Pauillac appellation, featuring a label by artist André Masson (1896-1987). For the 1957 label, Masson has created 'a hymn in praise of contented drunkenness'.
Note there is no size or ABV stated on the label.
Despite its market prices equalling that of Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Mouton Rothschild was excluded from the First Growth status under the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Baron Philippe de Rothschild called this a 'monstrous injustice', and some believe the Château was excluded as it had recently been purchased by an Englishman and was no longer under French ownership.
Please see images for fill level and label condition. Note damage to the label and capsule.
