A bottle of Mascarello Monprivato Barolo 2012.

'Monprivato occupies a privileged southwest facing slope fanning out from Castiglione Falletto. Long the only producer of this historically prestigious cru, Mascarello has upheld its superlative reputation by producing a separate bottling since 1970. The atypical 2012 vintage is built on elegance, highlighting the fragrant side of this cru. Lacy but balanced in its slighter physique, it is already showing redcurrant, rosehip and anise flavours. It lacks the density to suggest long ageing, but is lovely indeed. 94/100' Decanter
