This lot contains two bottles of 1970 Château Montrose, a second growth in the 1855 Classification, from the Saint-Estèphe appellation in Bordeaux. This is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, with the vines planted in a single solid block on gravel and iron-rich soil.
Michael Broadbent MW wrote in 1998 that 1970 was 'the sort of vintage to suit Montrose....massive, Latour-like, rich, mouthfilling but tough.' This wine featured in wine entrepreneur Stephen Spurrier's 'Judgement of Paris' tasting, in which it took fourth position (though was rated joint top by Spurrier himself).
Please note there is no size or ABV stated on the labels.
Please see images for fill level and label condition. Note damage to the labels and capsules.
Note the absence of a condition statement does not imply that this lot is in perfect condition or free from wear and tear, imperfections or the effects of ageing. Older bottles often contain small amounts of sediment. We cannot guarantee that the contents of this bottle will be free from the effects of age, cork taint, oxidation or other faults.
This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.
