What’s in the prize?

Karuizawa Noh 1983 28 Year Old #7576, 5.2%

To fans of Whisky.Auction, the closed Japanese distillery of Karuizawa requires no introduction. This is a highly sought after bottling (cask number 7576), distilled in 1983 and matured for 28 years in a single sherry butt. It was bottled by Number One Drinks Company in 2012 as part of the Noh Series.

Auction Value: £7,600

Van Winkle's 13 Year Old Family Reserve Rye, 47.8%

This is amongst the most famous of American whiskies, and with very good reason. While the minimum age of this release is 13 years, it is believed to include whiskey of much older age. The deep red colour alludes to this maturity and the flavour does not disappoint with a vast array of pungent spicy notes, complemented by toffee, caramel and dark fruit.

Auction Value: £1,450

Ardbeg Lord Of The Isles, 25 Years Old, 46%

A particularly special Ardbeg release, Lord of the Isles is from pre-1981 closure stock. This 25 year matured whisky was first released in 2001 and production continued for a short six years until 2007.
Trademark notes of wood smoke, petrol and leather with distinctive sweetness and a long finish.
Auction Value: £1,000

Lagavulin 1979 Distillers Edition, 43%

An ex-Pedro Ximenez sherry cask finished Lagavulin, released in 1997, the very first of their Distillers Edition releases (batch number lgv.4/463). Distillers Edition enabled Diageo to experiment with fortified wine casks and their Classic Malt range.
A decidedly complex whisky, with rich chocolate notes, coffee and raisins.

Auction Value: £1,000

Macallan 2008 Distil Your World London Edition, 62.9%

A rare chance to try this special on-trade only release from The Macallan, this was never available for general release. This was distilled in 2008, matured in a single sherry puncheon (cask number 21853) and bottled for The City of London in 2020.

This bottling was selected by The Macallan Whisky Maker Steven Bremner in collaboration with Josep Roca of El Celler de Can Roca.

Citrus aromas on the nose, figs and chocolate on the palate and a long smoke and spice finish.

Auction Value: £5,400

Brora 1982 20 Year Old, Chieftain’s, 46%

A 20 year old Brora, bottled and released by Chieftain. This was distilled in June 1982, matured in a single oloroso sherry butt (cask number 1195) and bottled in February 2003.

A decidedly fruity dram, with smoke and malt, there’s a balanced richness from sherry ageing.

Auction Value: £550

Thank you to every bidder, collector and whisky lover who’s supported us over the last ten years.

Here's to the next dram!
