Benriach

An auctioneer's guide to Benriach distillery

Benriach distillery was founded in 1897 by John Duff, the same builder of Glenlossie and Longmorn. It operated for just two years before it was hit by the economic downturn that shook the whisky industry at the end of the 1890s. Benriach's maltings continued to supply Longmorn while the distillery remained silent for 65 years until new owners The Glenlivet Distillers resumed production. The first Benriach 10 Year Old was released in the 1990s by then owners Seagram. Since the 1980s the distillery has maintained a 'peated season' every year to distil peated malt to blenders.

Benriach was acquired by US drinks firm Brown-Forman in 2016.
