To mark Earth Day on 22 April 2021, Place of the Way challenged 16 of the world’s best bartenders to create a selection of wildlife-inspired cocktails. Each cocktail represents one of the world’s most endangered animals and all proceeds will go to the World Wildlife Fund, a leading conservation organisation with a mission to create a world where people and wildlife can thrive together.
A 50cl bottle of Snow Leopard, a cocktail made with Ki No Bi Gin, gum Arabic, fermented gooseberry and white sandalwood.
Alan Sherwood, owner and bartender of Little Mercies, had this to say about his creation:
'From the first moment I saw the Snow Leopard on the endangered list I knew it was the animal I wanted to base my drink on. The idea of one of the most reclusive animals in the world really appealed, and I wanted to play off the idea of something unseen where they are known as the 'ghost of the mountains'. I remember years ago watching a BBC documentary on them, and the fact that the photographers camped out for nearly 3 years to catch abut 30 mins of footage.
There is an elegance and grace to these animals that I wanted to recreate in this drink, so I set out to make something that had a hidden aspect to it. The pearl white shimmer is only visible when you shake or pour the drink, creating a kind of surprise element. It's almost like its hidden in plane sight.'
